Reading For the Pleasure of It!
Good morning, friends and family. As I perused through the multitude of pictures I have collected, I noticed this one of the three young ladies hovered over a book, enraptured with the words upon the pages – reading for the pleasure of it. Now, I am not against technological advancements, but this book will eventually tell a story. It will tell the story of all the individuals that turned its pages; of all the paused moments on its pages, where a possible tear dropped, where a finger lingered over a certain sentence, or word; of pages worn thin from the number of times it was read; of the smell of perfume or aftershave, the fragrances of numerous readers; and on and on.
Could one see all that if their book was on an electronic device? I think not. But I am not writing this to convince you either way on how to read. Reading is a pleasure for many of us, and we all choose our method of how we read.
As a child, I devoured books. As an adult, I eat of them as much as I am able to. As a child my imagination ran wild with the stories I read, and my imagination began to create my own stories. I dreamed of becoming a great Canadian novelist. As I aged, I continued to write through the years, and now I am on my way to my dream – writing books for the reading pleasure of those who love a good book! And, I still have a great imagination, despite my countless years. Yes, I believe in unicorns and fairies and creatures created from imagination. I believe in worlds created from imaginations. Why? Because if even just for a few moments I can become immersed in another world, or take my readers to another world, it is all worth it. If I can turn the pages of a book and shut out my everyday life’s moments, relaxing with my new friends from another dimension, I will find my soul refreshed and ready to face another day.
Bottom line – reading for the pleasure of it, no matter what you read, allows you to enter a whole new world, and leaves a legacy to those generations coming behind us, as they might pick up one of the books you treasured and be able to discover how much it meant to you.
If you have a library of books, or if you have but a couple, write your name and the date you read the book on the inside cover. If we were all to do this, each time a book passed along on its life’s journey, another story could be written. Have a wonderful day, my friends – take a moment to read for the pleasure of it – your Writer on the Run is going to.
