Overcoming…

Overcoming the obstacles we sometimes put in front of ourselves … I think at one point in time we all tend to get down a bit about life. It seldom happens to me, but this past winter I have found myself just wanting to curl up and stay by the home fires. Maybe it was the burnout from so many book events last year – maybe it is just life itself telling me to stop and smell the roses, to think about where I have been, my accomplishments, the battles I have won, and how all these things combined have made me the woman I am today.

Many people who know me will find it difficult to believe what I am saying about myself here because they only see me as this self-confident, strong person, filled with passion for the pen. However, part of overcoming is to let others know your vulnerabilities so they will know they are not alone, and they too can overcome.

I had a dream as a young girl – that dream was to be a great Canadian writer. For years I feared to step out and do battle with my inner inhibitions of large crowds, of putting my work out there for the public to read. I was great at promoting others, yet I feared my own rejection. However, with the encouragement of friends, I managed to start breaking down my walls. I began to face my fears and gain the confidence in myself that I encouraged in others.

I am overcoming. I am winning my battles, one at a time. I am overcoming my fears as I step into the world I dreamed about as a child. I know there is more work to do, on my part, to continue overcoming all my fears, but oh, what I have accomplished to date. I have published five poetry anthologies, two short story collections, a youth novel, a biography, nine bilingual children’s books, and a vampire series consisting of, to this date, four novels, with at least one more coming out this year. I also have a wealth of unfinished manuscripts sitting on my shelf, just waiting to be finished.

Take care, my friends. If you need some moments to refuel, take them. Your Writer on the Run has been doing that, and soon she will be ready to hit the road again and share her dream with you all!
