Life’s Roller Coaster

by Mary M. Cushnie-Mansour

Published 1999

Mary will take you on the ride of your life as she begins this journey into the world of poetry. From poetry that is light and easy, and will make you chuckle, like “Invisible Me,” to poetry that will wrench your heart from your chest, like “The Broken Trust” and “Our Secrets,” and on to end with more heart warming pieces, like “The Strut.” They will all give you an insight into Mary’s world, and that of the world she observes.

I Am One

I am one
Yet,
I am two.
I live
In the real––
I flourish
In the un-real.

I am one
Yet,
I am two.
I exist in the tangible––
I flourish in the imaginary.
I am what I am
In my worlds.

My Cathedral

I visited my cathedral today.
God reached down and
Touched my head
With a sunbeam.
A light breeze fluttered
Through the trees
Drying the tears upon my cheeks.
I basked in
His loving embrace.

The Broken Trust

At what season of time
Did man decide to taint
The fruit of his loins?
Was it Spring,
The season of new life?
Or, Winter,
The season of frozen breath?

Innocent Lambs, Beware

My only crime was innocence.
Mama––Papa,
You restricted me in your four walls…
You encircled me with protective arms…
You hindered my hearing…
Shrouded my eyes…
You attempted to shelter me from the outside world…
You wanted to preserve me
For the white knight.

But,
Mama––Papa,
It’s a nightmare out here!

Our Time

It was our time––
The one we were once denied.
We
Laughed…
Played…
Opened doors…
Looked…
We
Closed doors…
Some
We locked forever.

Innocence Born

innocence born––
lives…
flickers…
extinguished…
dies…
again…and…again…and…again…
