Four stars for Allison Brennan’s “Make Them Pay.” I enjoy a book with lots of suspense because it is a quick read for me in this busy world we live in. “Make Them Pay” deals with a lot of family dynamics between siblings – and, the fallout after the parents die in a horrific accident.
Sean Rogan is the youngest siblings and is quite the genius. He is in the throws of planning his wedding to Lucy Kincaid, an FBI agent. Sean’s older brother, Kane, a former Marine and a mercenary has devoted his life to Rogan-Caruso-Kincaid Protective Services. He is definitely a force to be reckoned with – not soft, but not cruel either.
And then, there are the twins – Eden and Liam – two peas in a pod. They have always felt they weren’t part of the family, especially after their parents died. But, before the accident, Liam’s father had put his trust in his son to find a treasure he had been searching for all his life, asking Liam to keep the dream alive. When his parents died, his father’s dream became Liam’s obsession, and of course, Eden stood by his side.
Eden shows up at Sean’s door, and his fiance, Lucy, assumes she has come for the wedding. However, Sean has something Eden and Liam need. To get it though, Lucy ends up their captive, and she is taken down into Mexico and held hostage while the twins search for the treasure. Little did they realize the danger they had put Lucy in, her being an FBI agent who had rubbed a few undesirable individuals the wrong way.
This book is packed with action, with betrayals, with lust for treasure, with family feuds, with reconciliations. Want a few hours of entertainment – Make Them Pay will give it to you.
