Hope's Merry-Go Round Hope has always felt her life was like a carousel - a continuous ride of hurt, disappointment, and shame she could never get off of. Brick by brick, Laurie works to bring down Hope's walls, and she begins to heal. Finally, the carousel stops spinning... Written by Mary M. Cushnie-Mansour Edited by Bethany Jamieson Hope's Merry-Go-Round is now available in Audible - click here   A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR: I decided to write “Hope’s Merry-Go-Round” several years ago, and it has had several different starts. Why did I write this story? I wrote it because I deplore the sexual abuse of children. I wrote it because I once read an article in the newspaper about sibling abuse, and it struck me, at the time, it was an abuse seldom talked about. Society zeros in on parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, neighbours, clergy, strangers, etc., but not siblings. I used these characters to demonstrate the different paths victims can take in life––Hope uses the abuse she suffered at the hands of her brother to become promiscuous and blames it for everything that goes wrong in her life. Laurie also suffered sexual abuse as a child from her father and grandfather; however, Laurie took a different route and decided she would spend her life helping others deal with their trauma. To be clear, “Hope’s Merry-Go-Round” is a work of fiction; however, it is based on a reality in our world. Some of the scenarios in Hope’s early years were taken from my own experiences; some are loosely similar, and some are real. However, the sexual abuses dealt with in this story are fiction. Please read this story with an open mind. If you have experienced sexual abuse, know there is light at the end of the tunnel. You are not alone. Embrace life and live it because you are so worth it! Sincerely, Mary M. Cushnie-Mansour, Your Writer on the Run
