The Reckoning by John Grisham

Five Stars for John Grisham’s, “The Reckoning.”

Grisham never fails to disappoint me with his stories. The Reckoning will take you into the battle fields of World War II and your heart will be ripped apart as you read the pages detailing the horror that many prisoners of war were subjected to.
The book starts out with Pete Banning committing a horrific crime, for which he gives no reason. His sister doesn’t understand. His children don’t understand. The townspeople don’t understand how their local war hero could murder a man in cold blood. The wife, who Pete has put in an institution may be the only one who can tell why, but will she ever be able to come out of her shell to tell the tale.
The middle of the book is where we get a glimpse into the life of Pete Banning – what made him the man he was, and what happened to make him commit the crime he did.
Get ready for a thought-provoking/tear-jerking read.
